Bubbles are great for children of all ages. With minor modifications, you can play bubble games with your child from birth up to pre-school age - and probably beyond.
Location: Indoor, Outdoor
Promotes: Fun & games
How to play

Blow bubbles for your baby while they're sitting in front of you in an infant seat or snuggled in your lap, facing out. (Make sure you aim away from your child's face.) You might want to put on some music to set the mood.

Put a bubble jar in a changing bag for instant entertainment during long waits.

Show toddlers and pre-school children how to pop bubbles with their hands and stamp on them with their feet.

Let your child blow their own bubbles and see how far they travel. On cold days, see if you can blow frozen bubbles!

Tricks & advice

Make sure your child is not tempted to drink the bubble mixture.

Learning & growing

This activity is versatile enough to appeal to all ages. Babies can follow the bubbles with their eyes and try to touch them with their hands. Toddlers and young children can catch them with their hands, pop them with their feet and blow bubbles on their own.

What you'll need

Homemade Bubble Mixture :

  • 'swirlbullet'
  • A squirt of washing-up liquid
  • A cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) glycerine, available at any chemist (optional)
