Explore all the different sounds pots and pans can make. Invite your child to keep the beat with their feet (if they're walking) and join you in a Pantry Parade all around the house or even outdoors. You can dress up in an assortment of hats, scarves, bandannas or capes if you like.
Put on some marching music and strike up the band. Take turns at being the leader and invite the whole family to join in!
Make your own... Maracas - Empty metal tea canisters or clear plastic juice bottles filled with uncooked rice, popcorn or beans (make sure containers are glued or taped tightly shut). Guitar - A 2-litre milk container (or shoe box) with hole cut out, 'strung' with rubber bands. Tambourine - Two paper plates filled with dry beans and taped together tightly. Kazoo - Kitchen towel or toilet paper tube with a waxed paper square (about 8 x 8 cm) tightly secured to one end with a rubber band and tape.
Make sure your child can't reach anything sharp or heavy if they are allowed to search the cupboards themselves.

Small children don't need elaborate plans to have fun. This kind of activity appeals to their natural spontaneity and their desire to be near you as you prepare meals or clean up.
